Shaanxi is continuing efforts to shift freight transport from road to rail. The first multimodal freight service linking Shaanxi with the Yangtze River Delta has been launched.

Train X9726 departed from Xi’an International Port Station carrying 40 containers of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). The service covers 11 stations in Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces. Rail is used for the main leg of the journey, while local trucks deliver the cargo over short distances from the stations to businesses.

According to China Daily, the service can reduce overall logistics costs by approximately 30% compared with conventional road transport. Trains are scheduled to depart from Xi’an International Port Station twice a week, on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
