UTLC ERA сooperates with DB Cargo, launches New Multimodal Cargo Transportation Project from China to Europe via Port of Rostock

Joint Stock Company “United Transport and Logistics Company – Eurasian Rail Alliance” (UTLC ERA, joint venture of Belarusian, Kazakh and Russian Railways), cooperated with Kaliningrad Railway and DB Cargo (Germany) to launch new transit service of cargo delivery from China to Europe.

The intermodal route starts in Xi'an (China) and proceeds through Kaliningrad (Russia) to Rostock (Germany), and then to Duisburg (Germany).

The test train was launched on March 25 in Xi’an China. The train followed the base route of UTLC ERA and arrived at Kaliningrad-Sortirovochnyi on April 5. The train consists of 49 forty-foot containers with consumer goods. After transshipment in the Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport, on the same day the train was dispatched to the port of Rostock by sea.

According to calculations, the overall cargo delivery time to the final destination via the new multimodal route will not exceed 14 days, while transportation by sea takes about 45 days. Plans are to make multimodal transportation between Xi’an and Duisburg via the port of Kaliningrad permanent. Under this program in April of this year, five trains will travel from China to Europe, and the same number of trains will travel back from Europe to China.
