JSC UTLC ERA, in partnership with Russian Railways Logistics, expands the route network for cargo delivery from China to Europe via the Kaliningrad Region

JSC UTLC ERA in partnership with JSC Russian Railways Logistics took part in the organization of multimodal transit transportation of cargo from China to the UK on the Kaliningrad direction.

A container train loaded with 50 40-foot containers moved from the Chinese city of Xi’an through the border crossing Altynkol (Kazakhstan) on the regular service of JSC UTLC ERA to the terminal of Kaliningrad Commercial Seaport for transshipment to feeder and further shipping to the port of Immingham (UK).

Russian Railways Logistics is the operator of this transportation on the 1520 gauge on the basis of the UTLC ERA service.

The shipment, totaling 100 TEU, includes car parts, parts for industrial equipment, video game consoles, medical supplies and other goods.

In the conditions of growing demand for transportation by expedited container trains on the China-Europe-China route, multimodal services involving Kaliningrad Railways, basic services of JSC UTLC ERA and ports of Kaliningrad Region have become an effective addition to overland routes for container trains.

“The Kaliningrad Mainline has a significant transit potential and is ready for a fourfold increase in traffic volumes. The organization of transit container transportations in multimodal communication China - Europe - China through the ports of Kaliningrad region from Chinese provinces to EU countries (Scandinavian countries, Belgium and Netherlands, etc.) and UK, as well as to the U.S. and in the opposite direction is already realized by test shipments. The launch of such services on a regular basis will become a new growth point for the transit potential of gauge 1520,” commented UTLC ERA.

The new route will provide consumers with distribution services throughout the United Kingdom, giving shippers an alternative choice when considering shipping options from China to the UK and in the opposite direction.
