UTLC Q1 volumes top 30,000 TEU, up 140%Moscow, April 4. According to operational information, United Transport and Logistics Company JSC /UTLC/ (a major intermodal freight operator set up by the national railways of JSC Russian Railways, the National Union Belarusian Railway and JSC National Company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy to develop overland routes connecting Asia and Europe) moved in the first three months of 2017 30,600 TEUs /twenty-foot equivalent unit/ along the basic route Dostyk /Altynkol/ Brest/ Dostyk, which is 2.4 times more than 12,800 TEUs in the same period in 2016.
"Despite the Chinese New Year celebrations, which normally cause decline in demand for transportation in the first months on a year, 1Q volumes are close to the result of the 4Q last year, when 36,600 TEUs were transported, and even exceed the 3Q result at 29,900 TEUs”, comments Alexey Grom, President, UTLC.
In March 2017, UTLC moved over 12,000 TEUs - a 2.4-times increase from 5,000 TEUs a year earlier.
“We are very grateful to our customers and partners for joining efforts with us to maintain the record volume growth rates achieved in 2H 2016 in 1Q 2017. It is the best proof of unity of the transportation participants’ goals, high degree of responsibility and positive cooperation based on partnership and trust,” the Company’s president emphasized.
On March 29, 2016, UTLC JSC shareholders agreed upon the fundamental principles of UTLC JSC development, which underpinned the Company’s new operating model. Dostyk/ Altynkol/ Brest route and back was designated as the basic route of UTLC JSC container service. The Company’s absolute transparency and public disclosure of the Company’s tariff policy is an important resolution adopted by shareholders. This, in particular, means UTLC’s single approach to pricing not only for our subsidiaries, but also for third party transportation companies, which are ready to provide their cargo pool for the Company’s transit railway route.
The growth in the past quarter was in part due to the launch of regular shipments in partnership with DB Cargo Russia.
Since the start of 2017, the company has dispatched 365 trains, including 239 west-bound trains on the U West service and 126 east-bound on the U East service.
